Police in search for missing holidaymaker

THE Dorset police helicopter was sent up over Bournemouth town centre on Saturday afternoon to look for a missing holidaymaker.

Police said the 69-year-old woman, who walks using the aid of a three-wheeler, disappeared at around 1pm.

She was with her husband on holiday from Cheshire.

Anyone who thinks they have seen her should call police on 101.

think its more if you think you saw an old woman who looked a bit confused, maybe a bit distressed but you did not think much of it at the time, but thanks for your sympathy!

Tricky, maybe if there was more information as to where the lady was last SEEN, then perhaps people could help. What is anyone supposed to glean from whats written above?

Pointless article without more detail! This is god's waiting room so women on scooters are ten a penny! Give more detail!

Absolutely! Bournemouth town centre is a big place with arcades, double-entranced buildings and little cut-throughs. Surely if she's that iffy walking it would be like chasing a tortoise? I hope they found her considering she went missing at 1:00 and the story was posted at 3:07. Unless....she wandered into the twighlight zone (Boscombe)

I am very sympathetic, if I saw someone (old or young) who looked in distressed I would ask them if they needed help. I would not wait for a newspaper article to inform me of it!! This is a waste of time posting this, no information given at all. Hope this helps to clear it up for you or are you still a little confused?

once again Dorset police have failed to make use of the resources freely available to them. Dorset is lucky to have a very well qualified volunteer Search team Dor SAR who will happily turn out to help search in such circumstances. This lady could have been found in a very short time if they had been called out ...instead of relying on the few people who may have read a small report on a newspaper website!

I have to say your comment is so short-sighted and probably not based on being in possession of the full facts.

I would bet that the Echo called the police to ask why the helicopter was in the sky and was told that it's looking for a missing person. Then the Echo have published this very flimsy article without obtaining any of the details.

I doubt very much that this was an appeal put out by the police.

They probably found her within a very short space of time and the Echo reporter had since gone home and the article remains to be updated.

Calling out DorSAR would probably have been completely unnecessary in this instance, and by the time they arrived in the town centre she was probably found.

Come on Echo - why don't you call the police and ask them if she was found or not.

The lack of media appeals and coverage on local radio & tv tells me that she was probablyfound ages ago but yet again the Echo is not keeping it's news up to date. I know it's a weekend etc, but....

DorSAR are excellent search volunteers, especially for open countryside with vast spaces to search but something tells me they were not needed in the busy Bournemouth town centre where someone likely came accross her quite quickly and called the police.

So let's see what the Echo update is and then revisit your comment "Once again Dorset Police have failed..."

There's nothing like making a post based on assumption....

Hello Echo.... anyone out there??

You see, this is the thing with your newspaper. I'm never sure if what I'm reading is the full picture and this is not the only example.

As with this 'story'. It seems as if it was published without obtaining any useful or meaningful detail whatsoever, before the 'reporter' went home for the weekend.

Surely, in this instance, it would have been better not to have published it at all?

If I were the editor of this newspaper I would make it someone's responsibility to go through all of the 'most shared', 'most read' and 'most commented' stories & ensure they are updated where necessary.

This is an online edition, not print. There is a difference, you have the ability to update.

3 posters have asked if this woman is still missing and yet no reply....

Come on Echo. Do your job.

I'm guessing they found her safe otherwise they'd bother to update.
