A PHONE call over arrangements to rent a beach hut in Poole gained the caller more than just the keys to the door.

Marilyn Shearing of Verwood was Borough of Poole’s Customer Services 1,000,000th call since 2006, and she was presented with a bottle of bubbly by Chris Owens, head of customer services and communications.

It was difficult to forecast when the millionth call would come. “We were expecting it to happen the day before but call volumes have been lower than normal, probably due to the good weather,” said Ken Hunter, customer services manager.

“That said, we have seen a corresponding increase in demand for beach huts and members of the public are using our online system to book the remaining available beach huts.”

The lucky staff member who took the call received a meal for two voucher donated by Le Bateau bistro in Ashley Cross.
