A post box painted silver to celebrate Wyke Regis windsurfer Nick Dempsey’s second place in his Olympic medal race has been repainted, says the Royal Mail.

A mystery painter gave the box its new colour after Dempsey’s silver medal triumph on Tuesday.

The Royal Mail, which is painting some boxes gold to celebrate Team GB wins, said it was ‘extremely disappointed someone had chosen to vandalise the post box.’ Spokesman Heulyn Gwyn Davies said: “It is illegal to tamper with any of our post boxes and we are liaising with our engineers to ensure that it is repainted red as soon as possible.”
