Hotel and bar granted late-night alcohol licences

A BOURNEMOUTH hotel and a town centre bar have been awarded late-night alcohol licences, provided they protect nearby residents from noise and disturbance.

The Orchid Hotel in Gervis Road and the Viper Bar at Terrace Road were granted licences with a string of strict conditions attached.

Fourteen neighbouring residents of the hotel responded to the licensing application to claim that they were regularly disturbed by noise coming from the hotel.

The town’s licensing committee granted the licence but attached conditions that will require the hotel to play music through a limiter, install automatic door closers and commission tests by an acoustic specialist.

Rob Lewis, who has been the manager of the hotel for the past four weeks, said: “In the time I’ve been here we have taken really strong and proactive steps to ensure there are no more noise or disturbance problems for residents.”

He said he wanted to be a “community-minded manager”.

“It’s important that our business and residents can co-exist and live together side-by-side without any problems.”

The Viper Bar’s application was also granted. Their conditions include an instruction that they install a sound meter to monitor noise emissions.
