Olympic flame is just days away from visit to Dorset

THE countdown to the Olympic torch’s arrival is almost over.

Residents in Bournemouth, Poole and Purbeck have just four days left until they get the chance to witness a little piece of history winding through their streets.

Indeed, many will be cheering on friends and neighbours who were lucky enough to be nominated to carry the Olympic flame.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to line the route of the Olympic Torch Relay on Friday. Then, on Saturday, residents in Christchurch and the New Forest will do their bit by cheering the flame on as it continues its way to London for the Olympic Games opening ceremony.

And the Daily Echo will be among the crowds to ensure this historic occasion is captured for posterity. A special Olympic Torch Relay supplement, packed full of photographs, will be available with our Saturday and Monday editions. The celebrations are not expected to simply end after the torch passes by – scores of events have been organised across the county including a huge party on Bournemouth beach.

Last week we reported how an extra 2,500 free tickets for Bournemouth’s Olympic Torch Relay evening party had been made available.

Massive queues formed at the BIC last month when the first allocations went on sale.

This evening celebration will see the torch arrive, followed by entertainment and runs from 5.30pm to 8pm on Friday, on Bournemouth beach.

The event starts at 3pm, with last entry by 6.30pm
