A CAVALCADE of Italian beauty departed Chewton Glen hotel yesterday as DJ Chris Evans continued his latest fundraising efforts for Children in Need.

The annual Drive and Dine event kicked off on Thursday, with Chris’ Magnificent Seven collection of stunning Ferraris arriving at the hotel.

He broadcast his morning BBC Radio 2 show from there yesterday before the cars departed on day two of a four-day event.

Each of the drivers had shelled out huge sums of money to take part – last year the event raised £1.5 million – through an on-air auction held at the end of last year.

Yesterday Chris was also joined at the hotel by his fellow One Show host Alex Jones.

Writing on his blog, Chris said: “This is a massive week for The Breakfast Show and Children In Need. In fact it's probably our biggest week of the year. Our Le Mans – if you like.”

He added that those who had bid for the chance to drive the cars were “seven of the most generous souls imaginable”.

The line-up of rare and near-priceless cars included a 1960s 275 GTB, 1985 288 GTO, 1992 F40 and a 2011 SA Aperta.

This is the fourth year that the event has stopped off at the Chewton Glen and it hosted a drivers’ banquet and overnight stay, together with a seven-course Ferrari-themed black tie charity dinner and auction.

The charity event continued at Thruxton race circuit in Hampshire on Friday and culminates at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on Sunday.

I found your article titled "Motor Mouth" in Saturday's Echo quite offensive. You termed Chris Evans charity drive as a stunt which is quite a derogatory term - he has raised over a million pounds for Children in need. The name Motor Mouth is also unpleasant.

Well said. Great effort Chris! More than most people who post on here would do if they had is money.
