11:03am Friday 29th June 2012 in News By Caitlin Marsh
Jordan Wilkins and George Butler, both 15, who are catering students at Winton Arts and Media College will be cooking at Bournemouth Food and Drink Festival’s food demo kitchen
THE BIG finale weekend of the Daily Echo-backed Bournemouth Food Festival kicks off today.
A huge variety of local food and drink producers, as well as restaurants, hotels and cafes will be showing off the best of what they offer in stalls around Bournemouth Square and the Triangle over the next three days.
The markets will be open in Bournemouth Square from June 29 and June 30 from 10am – 10pm, and in the Square and the Triangle on Sunday July 1, from 10am – 8pm.
The Food Demo Kitchen also promises to be a huge hit when it opens at 11am today with two students, Jordan Wilkins and George Butler, both 15, from Winton Arts and Media College, being the first people to show off their culinary skills.
Following them today will be the Mayor of Bournemouth, Cllr Phil Stanley-Watts, who will be cooking with Des Burke from Flavours School of Cookery.
Across the weekend, chefs from Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel, D’CoalPot, White Pepper Cookery School and La Tasca Restaurants will be giving inspiration for cookery to try at home, and staff from Urban Beach Hotel will be presenting cocktails.
All the cooks will be rustling up food using fresh ingredients in front of an audience, who will be able to pick up some tips and advice to try in their own kitchens, before looking round the markets to buy the food for the recipes.
Bournemouth Food and Drink Festival Live takes place in the Triangle from noon – 8pm.
Stands include Breeze Lounge Bar and Restaurant serving cocktails, Purbeck Ice Cream serving up a delicious selection of flavours, The Big Enchilada Company serving Mexican food on a big red double-decker bus, and Dorset Nectar providing cider made within the county.
