A DORSET garden expert has been elected to the General Council of the Royal Horticultural Society.

Neil Lucas is an ornamental grass specialist, author and owner of Knoll Gardens in Wimborne and holds ten consecutive Chelsea Gold Medals.

He joins the council as one of 15 elected members responsible for the strategic management of the RHS, including horticultural standards.

Neil said: “The RHS is the UK’s leading gardening charity dedicated to advancing horticulture and promoting good gardening.

“I hope my practical hands-on knowledge as a gardener, garden owner, nurseryman, businessman and flower show exhibitor, as well as my experiences as a RHS judge will be of direct relevance, helping the council to encourage excellence in horticulture and inspire all those with an interest in gardening.”
