Italian ice-cream seller hopes to score with Euro 2012-themed flavours

WHAT’S YOUR FLAVOUR? : Luigi Bray with town centre manager Roger Parker
AN ITALIAN ice cream seller is offering a flavour of football ahead of his country’s big match against England.
Luigi Bray at Giggi in Bournemouth is already apologising if anyone finds the result hard to swallow tomorrow night but has launched England and Italy ice creams ahead of the Euro 2012 game.
“When we heard Italy were playing England we thought ‘no way we have to do something special’,” he said.
“It’s not about the business, it’s just nice to have a bit of fun because we are Italians in England and everyone is asking about those ice creams.”
Luigi is checking to see what the most popular is at the gelateria in Burlington Arcade off of Old Christchurch Road, to see if it predicts the winning team.
He said: “The match coincides with the opening weekend of the Bournemouth Food and Drink Festival and in order to celebrate both the festival and big match atmosphere I felt a special ice cream flavour should be created.
“Because the match features two important teams it was important to create two flavours, one England and one for Italy.
’I expect that the public’s preferred choice of flavour may well prove to be the match result predictor.
“If people prefer the ‘taste’ of Italy then maybe that indicates an Italy win, on the other hand local fans could influence the result by choosing the special ‘England’ flavour.”
To make up the colours the Italy creation is made with mint, strawberry and milk flavour ice cream while the English version uses fior di latte, strawberry and milk ice cream.
“Whatever the result it’s important to celebrate and I cannot think of a better way than with ice cream.”
