Walkers go beyond the call of duty in Swanage

Bournemouth Echo: JOINT EFFORT: Members of the Diverse Abilities Plus team that did the Swanage to Hengistbury Head walk JOINT EFFORT: Members of the Diverse Abilities Plus team that did the Swanage to Hengistbury Head walk

IT WAS best foot forward for a team of fundraisers as they braved the rain to walk from Swanage to Hengistbury Head.

The eight walkers collectively walked 201.2km as part of the Gold Challenge’s 2012 national Olympic legacy initiative.

Each member of the team works for Diverse Abilities Plus, the only Dorset disability charity that supports children and adults and their families throughout their lives.

The fundraisers were chief executive Mark Powell, retired chief executive Paul Barnard, head of business resources Charlotte Curtis, head of adult services Nick Hold, finance manager Mark Freer, fundraising manager Helen Alexander, trainer Steph Vaughn and graduate trainee Hugh Felstead.

They each walked a total of 26km each in seven hours.

Mark Powell, charity chief executive, said: “All of the money we raise will be going to Diverse Abilities Plus – a charity which we are all incredibly passionate about as it provides such vital support for hundreds of children and adults, and their families, in Dorset.

“Our target is to raise £1,000 by doing this challenge and we thank those that have sponsored us already.

“We would also like to thank The Harbour Heights Hotel, in Sandbanks, for their kindness in supplying lunch for the team on the day.

“It was most welcome!”

Western Sunset says...

Thought it was a glorious day yesterday with not a cloud in the sky.

They must've been very unlucky to have to "brave the rain".

Unless this is an old news story.....
