CIVIC planners have deferred a decision on whether to grant planning permission for a £50m cinema and restaurant complex in Bournemouth town centre.

Developers have spent years trying to build West Central on Exeter Road but Bourne-mouth Council now wants a bus station on the site.

When the council tried to pull the plug on the leisure scheme, by refusing to sell their part of the site to Licet Holdings, the developers amended their plans to remove a strip of council-owned land.

They are now asking the council’s planning board to approve some “minor changes” to the approved development.

Principal planning officer Barry Carse, who had recommended that the amended plans be turned down, told the council’s planning board: “Some late objections have been received to the area action plan policies which form the basis for refusal.

“We are now recommending deferral, pending the inspector’s deliberations which are expected later this summer.”

A move by Cllr Beryl Baxter to defer the decision was carried.
