Marathon man Adam Murry has completed three-and-a-half marathons in four days – but has been forced to abandon his 777 Challenge.

The Bournemouth businessman set himself the target of running seven marathons in seven days for seven charities.

The remarkable effort began in Paris on Sunday followed by Geneva on Monday, Italy on Tuesday and then Austria yesterday.

But he last night ended the quest after carrying a number of leg injuries throughout the marathons. He told the Echo: “I’ve been running through the pain barrier but I’ve had to stop in Austria after 13 miles.

“I’ve been in agony and I fell over three times because of the condition of my knee.

“My heart’s been telling me to do it but my body just won’t let me.”

He now plans to return to the UK tomorrow and try to get himself fit for the London Marathon on Sunday.

Earlier, speaking from Italy, he said: “After Geneva I really wanted to pack up and go home.

“I was in agony. My legs were heavily strapped.

“But I had a night of treatment and acupuncture in the motor-home we are using and was ready to carry on the next day.”

On the Italy leg, his wife Sarah, rode a bike all the way to give him encouragement.

The pair, who only married last month, completed 26.5 miles in four hours, 22 minutes.

“She’s been a tower of strength,” said Adam. “I wouldn’t be getting through this without her and the back-up team.”

He had planned to also run marathons in Germany and in Belgium before returning to the UK to run in the big London event.

He’ll be greeted in London by friends and supporters.

Adam hopes to raise over £40,000 for charities including the Ebony Robinson Foundation, Julia’s House, G4G and the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation.
