A MAN was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a shooting incident in Poole yesterday.

Police confirmed a gun had been fired inside a property in a residential part of Rossmore Road, Parkstone, at around 11.15am.

Unconfirmed reports said the weapon was a sawn-off shotgun and that a suspect was later arrested in a Bournemouth hotel.

Officers cordoned off a bungalow after the incident, along with a van which was parked outside, while forensics teams examined the scene.

There were three marked police cars and several crime scene units outside the home.

Neighbours said the house had been empty while it was being refurbished for a new tenant after the previous occupant died.

Near neighbour Mike Keeling said: “I was coming home and saw police activity. I asked what was going on and was told ‘There’s been a serious incident, we’re shutting it down’.

“My wife said it was about 11am or 11.15am that it started kicking off and the police came around asking ‘Did you hear anything?’ ”They asked her if she had heard any noise.”

One neighbour reported seeing a man with blood on his face, although police claimed no one was hurt in the episode.

A witness said he had been alerted by shouting and swearing in the street outside his home.

He said: “There was just an argument and then somebody trying to run away.”

Dorset Police confirmed that they are investigating after being called to an address in Rossmore Road at 11.17am by a man on a mobile telephone.

A spokeswoman said: “During the incident a firearm was discharged, however no-one was injured.

“A 51-year-old Bournemouth man has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.”

She added that detectives would like to hear from anyone who saw a black 2011 Vauxhall Corsa in the Rossmore Road area at the time of the incident.

The suspect was last night being held for questioning.

Witnesses and anyone with information are asked to ring the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
