STUDENTS combined two of the most popular shows on TV to create an entertaining night out for 60 guests.

Strictly Come Dancing met Masterchef to create the fund raising event at Oakmead College of Technology in Bournemouth.

Strictly Come Dining saw students at the Duck Lane school create a three-course meal and live entertainment to raise funds towards sending a group of students on a summer mission to Ethiopia to help slum children.

Youngsters between the ages of 14 and 18 took part and GCSE catering students cooked chicken liver parfait, lamb shanks in red wine and maple cheesecake, under the professional eye of chef Tom Workman.

Diners kept an eye on their progress via a live video link to the kitchen.

Between courses sixth-form dance students performed routines from 1920s flapper to jive and steady-handed volunteers from years 10 and 11 were front of house.

Table decorations, favours, menus and decorations were created by design and technology students, bringing the total number involved to more than 100.

Executive head teacher Dr Annetta Minard was among the diners and she said: “This is a wonderful night and these students have shown amazing enterprise, resourcefulness and talent – I am very proud of them.”
