COUNCIL bosses at Bournemouth have ordered a rethink over the night-time economy, the violence that surrounds it and the image problem it presents.

Given the news about Fir Vale Road which is at very heart of clubbing land, this fresh look has come not a moment too soon.

Given the tens of thousands of people who are out and about in the area on a Friday and Saturday night and given the serious amount of alcohol consumed, the statistics on serious assaults are hardly surprising. But the whole issue presents Bournemouth with a huge dilemma.

Clubland has become a crucial part of the town’s income - hence the phrase night-time economy.

But making the resort much more family friendly (which is surely the number one priority) will be a problem while this over-reliance on vertical drinking spaces continues. Over to you Mr Beesley and Mr Smith.
