A Mudeford mum with cancer, battling to get her young sons into the same school, has set up a petition to try and plead her case.

Michelle Amey, 35, and her husband Stuart started the petition on Friday to add to the support that has been shown for them in their unusual circumstance.

The petition is addressed to Dorset County Council and Education Secretary Michael Gove.

No longer able to drive after having brain surgery to remove a tumour, Michelle, who lives in Friars Cliff, is desperate to see Charlie, seven, and George, four, attend Mudeford Infants School in Queens Road.

Having undergone surgery to remove tumours from her brain and adrenal gland in the last few weeks, as well as having a kidney removed, Michelle said for the well-being of both boys she wants them in the same school to support each other.

Husband Stuart works in Southampton and is unable to collect the boys himself.

Due to the couple moving just over half a mile away two years ago, four-year-old George was offered a place at Somerford Primary School, which the couple have refused.

The council say they cannot allow George to attend Mudeford Infants School as it would be against legal requirements in their admissions code.

Michelle said: “I’m not just going to give up.

“We are going to keep fighting to see how far we can take it.

“We’re just trying to get as many signatures as we can. It’s been going since Friday afternoon and already there are more than 200 signatures.
