A RECYCLING business has landed a major three-year contract to handle waste wood in Hampshire.
Eco Sustainable Solutions will recycle waste wood delivered to the county’s network of household recycling centres.
The firm is expected to process around 80,000 tonnes of waste wood annually from a new site based at Southampton docks.
About three-quarters will be shipped to fuel power stations in Sweden.
The remaining 20,000 tonnes of cleaner wood will be used for animal bedding and as fuel for biomass power plants in the UK.
Eco was awarded the contract by Veolia Environmental Services, which has held the contract to manage all of Hampshire’s municipal waste since 1995.
The undisclosed deal will significantly increase the 150,000 tonnes of recyclable material that Christchurch headquartered Eco currently handles yearly.
Eco Sustainable Solutions will be working in partnership with Solent Stevedores.
The waste wood will be transported to Solent Stevedores site at Southampton docks.
