OCCUPY Bournemouth protesters have reappeared to set up camp in Boscombe.

More than a week after the group were moved from the grounds of St Peter’s Church, the protesters arrived at their new site at the corner of Ashley Road and Christchurch Road early on Monday morning.

Situated opposite Natwest bank, the party of six or seven tents is expected to grow as more supporters join the group over the next few days.

The site is adorned with various signs and notices along with a gazebo where the group will be holding daily workshops and meetings.

Gary, one of the protesters, said: “There are a lot of people at university that have expressed their support and we expect many more to come down later. There will be a general assembly meeting this evening.

“The police are aware of our presence and have already been down.”

He says they are there because they want “to share information about the money abusers”.

Since bailiffs moved the protesters from Bournemouth Town Hall, which led to several moving their tents to an area of land outside the Pavilion and then on to grounds at St Peter’s Church, they have been meeting regularly to discuss their next move.

“People have so far been mainly supportive,” Gary said.

“A few are asking what we’re about and how they can help and so on.

“We just want to share the information we have and get people to see what is really going on.”

The group also hopes to put on some street theatre performances later this week.

A spokesperson for Bournemouth council said: “We are aware that the Occupy movement has set up camp in Ashley Road.

“Our staff have visited the protesters to assess the situation and discuss their plans.”
