A MAN who killed a promising young businessman while driving underage is behind bars again for flouting a driving ban.

Shahan Baker, otherwise known as Shahan Hayavi, was jailed at Portsmouth Crown Court for 30 months for driving whilst disqualified and drug offences.

The 23-year-old of Brassey Road, Bournemouth, was arrested in Bournemouth in October last year for flouting the ban and possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply.

Baker was just 16 when the Ford Fiesta he was driving ploughed into Andrew Tollon, 26, as he made a delivery to the Travis Perkins premises in Jameson Road in Winton.

The vehicle had four passengers and sped from Wimborne Road into Jameson Road when the occupants realised they were being followed by the police, on June 24, 2005.

All five jumped out of the moving vehicle and ran, leaving the car to continue moving. Andrew was crushed between the moving car and his own van. He suffered fatal injuries.

Baker was arrested nearby and later pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving. He was sentenced to three years, four months in youth custody. A judge lifted reporting restrictions on naming Baker due to the seriousness of the offence.

Andrew, who lived in Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire, had just started his own electrical company and had secured contracts worth £250,000 a year.

After the court case in February 2006, Andrew’s father Alan said: “Those animals crushed my son between their car and his van and then ran like rats, leaving him to die alone without the people he loved.”
