A SMALL firm has been bombarded with calls after Google listed its phone number as the Bournemouth International Centre.

The two-man team at the Bournemouth Phone Centre had more than 50 calls in two days from people trying to book tickets.

Exasperated boss Alex Duke said: “People start complaining they have been waiting an hour to buy tickets for Jessie J and Derren Brown. I try to explain but some of them just don’t believe me.

“It’s affecting our business because we are trying to do repairs and we are getting distracted by the phone. Some of our customers probably can’t get through. I unplugged the phone in the evening because it was just ringing and ringing.”

After being unable to find a phone number for Google he tried emailing the firm but had no reply. The mistake is also affecting Bournemouth’s V nightclub in the town centre.

When you search for the BIC, you get V’s website address, and the phone number for the Bournemouth Phone Centre.

Alex, whose firm is on Wimborne Road, Winton, said: “My business partner has had people phoning up for bar jobs at V.”

But staff said they were also getting calls from people trying to get through to V despite their IT department sending emails to California-based Google.

Alex, 36, from Charminster, said he also discovered a few weeks ago that Google was giving out the number of Queens Park Dental Team as the number for his business.

The Echo emailed Google’s press office but had no reply.

Gail Collins, the BIC’s event sales and marketing manager, said: “We weren’t aware of this problem – we are as busy as usual.”

After apologising to Bournemouth Phone Centre and offering staff free tickets for a summer show, she added: “I’ve reported the problem to Google and hopefully this issue can be resolved as soon as possible.”
