A BODY was discovered at a Poole school on Tuesday morning as teachers returned from the Easter break.

The man was discovered by the caretaker at Poole High School, off Wimborne Road, just before 6am.

It has not yet been revealed if the man was a member of staff but it is understood he was not a student at the school.

Pupils were due to return to Poole High today, but the school will remain shut due to the ongoing police investigation.

The man was declared dead at the scene and police are not treating the death as suspicious. No details about the dead man were released as his next of kin had yet to be informed.

Teachers turned up at the school on Tuesday for their scheduled training day, but were immediately told by headteacher Chris Lewis to return home.

Mr Lewis said a “serious incident” had occurred on the site over the weekend but remained tightlipped over the nature of the events.

He said he hoped to reopen the school tomorrow, pending the outcome of the investigation.

A sign hung from the school gates read: “The school site is closed to all people all day today.

“This includes students, staff and visitors. All student activities planned for today are cancelled.”

A member of the school maintenance staff who had been told to return home said police were all over the building when he first arrived.

Students who arrived at the school to hand in coursework were also turned away.

The East Dorset coroner has been informed of the man’s death and an inquest into expected to be opened later this week.
