A large area of woodland along Redhill Avenue in Bournemouth was sealed off on Tuesday night after another day of intense police activity.

Officers were posted every few yards along a 500 yard stretch of road at around 11pm and it’s understood the operation went on throughout the night.

Several police cars and 4x4s were parked along the road and officers appeared to be searching the woods which were taped off.

It follows four days of searching by at nearby Kinson Common where eight firearms were discovered over the weekend, including shotguns.

The weapons and ammunition are being linked to serious crime in Dorset.

Meanwhile two men were arrested and led away following an incident at an address in Bournemouth on Tuesday evening.

Police cars blocked off the entrance to Sandy Way near Redhill Drive and three other officers were seen holding firearms.

The police helicopter was also at the scene.

Resident, Gary Bentham, said: “We heard the police helicopter but that is not unusual. But when I looked out of our front window I saw the commotion with police cars and armed police around.

“Standing in the middle was a young male in a yellow teeshirt aged between 18 and 25. He was handcuffed and led away to an unmarked car and driven away.

“Shortly after a lad in a white teeshirt of roughly the same age was brought out of Sandy Way in a restraining hold by two policemen and driven away in a marked police car.”

Insp Richard Hutley, declined to say whether the incident was connected with the guns find at Kinson Common.

He said: “There's been an incident and we have been asked to control the area. We are just preserving it for public safety at the moment.”

Insp Hutley added that most officers would soon be leaving the scene leaving just two uniformed officers to guard Sandy Way throughout the night.
