Bournemouth Echo: Imelda May Imelda May

CALLING all music fans. There’s a new local festival to put in your diary this summer.

Upbeat at Upton is a three-day music festival to be held at Upton Country Park over the August Bank Holiday and organised by Poole music venue Mr Kyps and Big Bear Events in association with the Daily Echo.

Irish songstress Imelda May has already been announced as one of the headliners and and other major acts will follow.

Taking place over August 27, 28 and 29 the festival has the support of the Borough of Poole’s leisure services and plans are well underway to produce a fantastic line up for the three day event.

Upbeat at Upton will feature a Legends Party Night on August 27 featuring a line up of tribute acts that will whet the appetites for followers of all musical tastes.

On the Sunday there will be a Festival Day culminating in a major act. Full details of the line-ups will be released over the coming weeks in the Daily Echo.

On the Monday, August 29, there will be a Family Fun Day that will include the involvement of Lazy Town Sports Club powered by FitKid, who will be bringing children’s favourite character Sportacus to the Upton Country Park with an all action show to keep the children enthralled.

Fitkid will also be organising a Children’s Fun Run as part of the day’s entertainment mingled in with an array of live music from Mr Kyps.

The Fun Day event will be free to the general public. The Friends of Upton Country Park will still be holding their annual Summer Craft Show in Upton House on Sunday, August 28 and Monday 29 from 10am to 4.30pm.

Upbeat at Upton will be one of the biggest musical events to be held on the South Coast and full details and ticket prices will be released shortly via the Daily Echo.

We used to have a decent country fair that weekend and people used to come from all over the country to it and that got screwed up.

Mr Kyps has always provided the live music to the Poole Park Fest and has always been the most popular part of that event. The fact that it has grown into a self contained free music festival is tribute to the organisers. However, parking may be a problem at Upton so I hope they have the foresight to maybe open up the Creekmoor Park & Ride site to prevent congestion around Upton House itself.
