BEATLES legend Ringo Starr is set to play his first solo gig in Bournemouth – at the age of 70.

The former Fab Four drummer is lined up for the show at the BIC on June 24.

Tickets, priced £55-60, are on sale now for his only South coast date of a rare European tour.

Starr’s appearance in Bournemouth comes seven months after fellow Beatle Sir Paul McCartney wowed fans at the Isle of Wight festival.

Starr has racked up countless shows in the US with his All-Starr Band, a line-up of veteran musicians.

In the past, members have included Cream superstar Jack Bruce and Average White band singer Hamish Stuart.

But he hasn’t done a full-blown European tour in the four decades since The Beatles split.

Speaking on his website, Starr said: “I’m doing a new album and we’re coming over to play some shows in Europe.

“I’m looking forward to getting out to play for the fans.”

The tour is expected to include shows in his hometown of Liverpool, as well as Hamburg, where the young Beatles cut their teeth as a live band.

The Beatles had a strong connection to Bournemouth when they first started out and played a week-long season of two shows a night at the Gaumont Cinema in August 1963.

At the height of Beatlemania from 1963 to 1965, the Fab Four played dates at the Winter gardens and a return to the Gaumont the following year.

In fact, The Beatles played more often in Bournemouth than anywhere else in the UK outside of Liverpool and London.

Bandmate, John Lennon loved the area so much that he bought a seafront bungalow home at Sandbanks in 1965 for his beloved Aunt Mimi.

Ringo’s appearance at the BIC in June is sure to be a once-in-a-lifetime chance for most fans to see him in a live show and sure to rekindle some nice memories for those lucky enough to see him play the first time.
