Ryanair has announced it will be operating a schedule from Bournemouth Airport this summer after terminating its winter operations for three months.

Following an announcement in July that the budget airline would be suspending flights from the beginning of November, Ryanair will be running a summer schedule to 13 destinations from February until October 2011.

The provisional destinations, seven of which can already be booked online, include Lanzarote, Malaga, Alicante, Faro, Fuerteventura, Barcelona-Girona and Tenerife.

Many of those are expected to be running by February 6, 2011.

Earlier this year, the budget airline, blaming the government’s air passenger duty tax for their temporary withdrawal, said the decision to move to a nine-month seasonal operation at the Bournemouth base was not a long-term decision.

But although the Bournemouth base will once again be utilised until the autumn, a spokesperson from Ryanair said a decision about the winter schedule for 2011 would not be taken until nearer the time.

Sally Windsor, communications director at Bournemouth Airport, said: “We are delighted to hear that Ryanair’s current winter programme has been extended into the summer season, and we hope to see more destinations added as the airline continues to confirm its flight programme from all UK airports.”

Passengers will also experience the airport’s new arrivals building, which is due to open next summer.

The project, which is part of the airport’s £45 million transformation programme, has been making progress over the winter months, unaffected by the recent turbulent times.

Bmibaby withdrew their Jersey route at the end of June and more recently Palmair scaled back its holiday operations and handed back its plane.

Palmair passengers will travel on chartered seats on Thomson Airlines to just two destinations, Lanzarote and Tenerife in February, March and April as part of its slimmed down programme this winter.

News about their summer 2011 programme will be made at the end of this year.
