Hurrah also the play does not puzzle throughout only to cheat its audience out of the pleasure of the reveal by introducing unknown information at the last minute. Where’s the fun if you couldn’t possibly have worked it out?

Clearly defined direction by Lyn Richell combined with excellent casting, realistic set and detailed costumes made for a strong production that held attention till the last, though the play took a bit of time to warm up in the first half - as always with a classic whodunit, the crossfire of suspicious exchange makes for a lot of conservation which can be difficult to stage with velocity.

Greig Blanden was superbly convincing as quick witted husband Richard, while John Pemble played father Charles Doubleday with strong, natural presence. Gary Paine played a rakish murder suspect as Matthew Doubleday, whilst Val Smith gave a lovely performance as genteel dotty sister Emma. Her sisters were also played with confidence by Lesley Gannon, Joanne Guess and Judy Garrett.
