IT’S the place where he was stabbed in the head with a screwdriver – but that won’t stop Nick Verron returning to Boscombe to celebrate the changes that have happened there.

Nick Verron needs round-the-clock care since he was attacked in July last year in Roumelia Lane.

But the 26-year-old has agreed to return for the Boscombe Tea Party, which will be held on May 1.

Nick, now living with his mum in Aylesbury, suffered severe brain injuries in the attack and his 18-year-old attacker was jailed for seven years this spring.

Since then residents have been working hard to improve Roumelia Lane and Boscombe is undergoing major investment.

The Tea Party will be recognition of that work and a chance to celebrate all that is best about the area.

There will be three or four stages of music, food, fashion and craft stalls, street artists and much more.

The entertainment will be on the beach, Boscombe Crescent, the shopping precinct, and Boscombe Chine Gardens.

Angus Reid from Boscombe Traders said: “Nick Verron has agreed to be a guest to see what has changed.”

Boscombe Area Regeneration Group (Barg) is organising the party and has secured £20,000 of funding.

Andrew Lennox, from Koh Thai tapas restaurant, and a member of Barg, said: “It’s basically a massive celebration of all the work that’s going on and how Boscombe is right now.

“It will be a bit like a bigger version of Groove on the Green in Ashley Cross.

“It will be a family, community event with something for everyone.”

Residents have also set up the Friends of Roumelia Lane and it is now being improved with street lighting, CCTV and a one-way system.

Daily Echo readers raised £2,500 for Nick and his mum Sue when they were threatened with eviction by their housing association after they lost jobs and savings in the aftermath of the attack.

The nearby Chaplins Wine Bar hosted a free concert that helped buy Nick a mobility scooter.
