New Red Arrows recruit and the first female pilot in the team’s history, Flt Lt Kirsty Moore, has praised the air festival – despite the conditions.

She said: “I have never been to Bournemouth before. It’s brilliant but I am not impressed with the weather.”

“It’s a great place to display, I really enjoy the seaside display sites – often the air is a bit smoother so it makes for an easier display which looks better.

“We have also been really well received by everyone. When they see the red suits, everybody comes running over and wants to talk. It’s been a great experience and we have been able to meet many more people than usual because of the weather, so that’s a bonus.

Flt Lt Moore, 32, Red 3, flew the RAF Tornado before joining the aerobatic team.

Speaking at the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation lunch, she said: “This is a really important cause for us because it’s all about helping young people fulfil their dreams and ambitions.”
