A POOLE GP has been found guilty of serious misconduct for groping staff, drinking on duty and viewing pornography at his surgery.

Dr Ralph Vadas, 56, was also found to have given “fundamentally flawed” care to some patients at the West Canford Heath medical centre.

A GMC panel ruled the GP’s fitness to practise was now impaired and he faces being struck off next week.

Ralph Bergmann, chair of the panel, said Dr Vadas was guilty of a catalogue of serious and persistent failings over a considerable period of time.

Dr Vadas, a married father, admitted patting and rubbing the bottoms, hips and stomach of nurses and receptionists at the Canford Heath practice.

He also confessed to viewing pornographic images of large ladies, often in view of other staff at the surgery, and installing a webcam in his consultation room.

Mr Bergmann said: “You have behaved inappropriately and in a sexually motivated way towards several work colleagues.

“A constant feature of your misconduct is that it was repeated, rather than being isolated or individual lapses.”

After a previous GMC hearing related to his drinking, Dr Vadas relapsed and admitted swigging alcohol at work several times in 2007.

Among the 60 charges, the panel also found the GP had offered “inadequate” treatment to eight patients between 1995 and 2008.

His failings included getting one patient hooked on opiates and advising one man suffering from chronic chest pain to make his own way to the hospital. Mr Bergmann said: “The totality of the facts constitutes serious breaches of fundamental principles of good medical practice.”

It was also found Dr Vadas had threatened his practice manager with legal action if she attended his GMC hearing.

A decision on Dr Vadas’s sanctions is expected next week and several options are available to the GMC. But as he was already under supervision – imposed in 2006 for a previous failing – it seems highly likely that Dr Vadas will now be struck off the Medical Register.

Dr Vadas was employed by the Bournemouth and Poole PCT in 1992 after registering as a doctor in 1979.
