Updated: Eleven arrested after raid on New Forest nursing home

ELEVEN people have been arrested in an immigration raid on a New Forest nursing home.
Officers from the UK Border Agency swooped on Linford Park Nursing Home in Poulner, near Ringwood, at 6am yesterday after a tip-off.
Three members of staff were also arrested by public protection officers "regarding the standard of care provided to a resident".
Emergency care staff from a number of health agencies, including Social Services and Ambulance crew, have been brought in to run the home and to assist in moving 34 people to alternative accommodation.
A spokesman from the Care Quality Commission told the Daily Echo none of the original members of staff were working at the site today.
She added: "The safety and wellbeing of the residents is our number one priority.
"We have worked closely with Hampshire County Council to ensure residents are protected and well looked after.
"We will monitor the situation extremely closely over the next few days and will take any further action that may be required."
The home, in Linford Park Road, was rated adequate and given one star in its latest inspection by the Commission For Social Care.
On its website the business is described as being "designed by the needs of our residents" and a place where "dignity, privacy, comfort and personal choice are at the heart of our ethos".
Hampshire County Council's executive member for adult social care, Felicity Hindson, said: "The care and wellbeing of the frail residents at the home near Ringwood is paramount and we have been carrying out individual assessments during the day.
"We have had to move a number of the most vulnerable and frail elderly people to alternative care.
"These include some residents who are the responsibility of other agencies and we are working closely with those authorities and our colleagues in the health service.
A spokesman for the UK Border Agency said: "The operation was intelligence-led and targeted immigration offenders working illegally at the home.
“Eleven people have been detained by the UK Border Agency.”
He added that the raid was supported by Hampshire County Council’s adult services department.

Arresting people that are hard working and trying to support themselves while doing a very worthwhile job seems ridiculous. The potential fine here is £55,000 - that could put the home out of business. If people want to work why don't we let them work.

That means thay weren't doing the job that they were supposed to, and also covers abuse of the elderly. Would you like these illegals looking aftr your loved ones?

Pretty much everything, I'd have thought - if he or she (I'll assume 'he' given the obvious rage in his comment) doesn't vote based on his opinion, what does decide how he votes? The paper he reads? Whether the candidate is a woman or not? The weather?

The consequence is that there are people from other countries who are willing to come here and work.
Even if they are paid the lowest rate possible, it is probably much more than they can earn in their own country.
I don't agree with all the present Government policies, but I can see their reasoning in trying to get some of the hard core unemployed back to work.
Having said all that, these workers were allegedly illegal. The owners of the home cannot claim ignorance. They know the necessary checks there are to ascertain a worker's status. If they choose to ignore that system and take a chance on cheaper labour, they can't complain when they are caught.

i am certainly not jealous of anyone as i am well of enough to do and buy more or less what i want but that doesnt stop my youngest son volunteering to work in a school for handicapped kids and it even cost him money ie crb check and bus fares and the other boy helping the young lads at the local church coaching them at football because he realises you must put something back and not be a taker i am sure my boys in their life will be good members of society unlike the useless parasites i have already mentioned

And most fail to see the suffering of the elderly that has gone on behind these closed doors.
I visited there a few years ago and it was rather like a prison then and not very clean. There was a strange atmosphere there - and they were always advertising for staff.
It is true that care workers are very poorly paid and many are excellent. But don't waste your pity to all of those who are without a job and here illegally. The whole situation is terrible - and it's amazing that it's not been investigated before.
Local comments on people who know the home are horrific - and have been so for some time.

The majority of the staff there were brought to this country through agencies who arranged their employment and paperwork on their behalf - perhaps someone should start looking at them instead of the carers.
