EVERYTHING from an Olympic sized swimming pool to a rent-a-bike facility was proposed by Poole pupils for a major regeneration site.
The 32-acre brownfield former power station land is the subject of a planning application by JJ Gallagher and Lands Improvement Holdings for homes, retail units, offices and public spaces.
And 90 Hamworthy Middle School youngsters from year seven let their imaginations flow with suggested designs for the waterside land.
“I asked them to look at sustainability, to be eco-friendly and to be in keeping with the regeneration and what the young people of Hamworthy are looking for,” said teacher Helen Campbell.
Working in small teams, the pupils wrote reports, gave presentations and made models to demonstrate their proposals.
“Some very imaginative and creative ideas came from all the pupils,” said Borough of Poole environment and design team leader Warren Lever, who considered the shortlist with planning officer Aliis Kodis.
Winners were Joseph Toms, the teams of Jack Townsend and Michael Jacobs, and Syed Adlou, George Mabey and Steven Jenkins.
As their reward they will spend a day with council planning officers, learning how the job is done.
