Bournemouth Air Festival 2010 launched

STAY longer… see more! That’s what the predicted 1.5 million visitors to this summer’s 2010 Bournemouth Air Festival are being encouraged to do.

Organisers, who launched Festival 2010 today, want visitors to enjoy more of the town as they attend an expanded evening entertainment programme and get even more to explore during the day.

New for 2010 will include a replica Typhoon plane for visitors to get inside, along with the replica Chinook which dominated the Pier Approach last summer. Air Festival TV, broadcast on three large-screens around the festival and Lower Gardens area, and a dedicated radio commentary channel running for the duration of the event will also increase visitor information and enjoyment.

There will also be a beefed-up Royal Navy presence following the town’s warm support for the naval operation last year. Commodore Jamie Miller CBE told the festival launch: “For us in 2010 this is the only event in the country receiving this level of Royal Navy presence. It’s great for us and great for Bournemouth.”

The 2010 Bournemouth Air Festival takes place August 19-22.

Can't help thinking that if I were writing this story, I'd have put the dates in.

Note to Organisers - Different planes this year, please! There are five other air forces within flying distance of Bmth - get them involved too!

Interesting that the launch made no mention of a new sponsor so where's the money coming from for Air Festival TV and radio commentary channel ? No doubt the council tax payer will be footing the bill while the likes of The Cumberland Hotel and others charging premium prices over the weekend will profit nicely.

I'm quite happy for council tax to be spent on something that benefits the town and the whole community.
This event brings people together, and because it's free, brings people to the town.

Vulcan, Battle of Britain flight, Typhoon, B17, any WW2 planes good. Modern and historical military planes also good. Maybe a new Airbus as well.

Civilian planes and display teams got a bit boring.

Just my opinion of course.

The Air Festival is good news for Bournemouth but only Dorset residents should enjoy this for free and charge grockles for attending the event.

Last year was unbearable with far too many people around, much more than 2008 and they were taking advantage of a free event even travelling hundred of miles for that!

With ongoing roadworks in the area, it will be chaos on the roads when the grockles show up. This is one downside of living in a resort I suppose!

i am pleased that there is an air festival again this year and even though i love the old WW2 aircraft i would like to see more fast jets and not the same thing flying at different times every day

A squadron of Harriers would be impressive even though they are an old aircraft!

rook is right...why, so far, is the air festival orientated around military aircraft? yes these are great, especially the vulcan, but what about civilian aircraft such as the A380 and what about Concorde? Concorde is still flying, for special occassions of course, so whats the issue with that?

A Concorde still flying ? That's news to me. Which one is it ?
