No excuses for motorist caught driving with the bonnet up

POLICE were taking no excuses from a motorist caught driving a car with the bonnet up.

Officers on patrol in Weymouth were amazed to find the bonnet of this car wide open, blocking the driver’s view.

Police said the driver claimed it was faulty and he was on his way to the garage to get it fixed.

He was stopped by police who are still investigating the incident.

The bizarre scene was uncovered as police took to the roads as part of the Dorset-wide No Excuse safety campaign – an initiative to educate people about bad driving.

During a day in Weymouth, officers detected around 30 offences associated with poor driver behaviour which could have led to serious crashes.

This included one man steering the car with his elbows while using both hands to roll a cigarette and another motorist found to be reading from a clipboard placed across the steering wheel.

In total across Dorset 2,364 driving offences have been picked up in the first six weeks of the campaign.

At last some pro-active policing, but that will be wrong too for some.

About time too, get all untaxed, uninsured, no mot, motors off the road instead of collecting fines from camera's.

Driver was probably using it to keep the sun out of their eyes and should be applauded for ingenuity.
Aids engine cooling too.

Isn't the only real way to do this to have identity transponders fitted to all cars so roadside devices can detect any passing cars which flaunt the rules?

How dare the police persecute motorists ?

I had always thought (having read so many posts on this forum) that motorists automatically gained legal immunity the moment they sat behind the wheel.

Wonder where these self righteous defenders are now, as I certainly remember the ridiculous crud posted on here complaining about the action of the police in this matter.

Was it a man now?
Yesterday it was a 53 year old woman.

Perhaps the hood was disguising her true identity.
Just wait till she gets her Easter bonnet up, then there will be some hot cross buns around!

Had the change been t'other way round, I'd have said it was the police questioning technique did it.

What an utter idiot!

This item was published in the Dorset Echo a week ago. Has the runner with a cleft stick gone lame? Did the pigeon get lost? or maybe it was too misty for the semaphore.
In the meantime they could have read the same item in the National press or on seen it on the BBC and corrected it, but they didn't. Maybe the Echo still want to believe that the driver really was a man...

Typical, all the police do is pick on motorists. I expect it was the fault of a speed camera or cyclist.

...sorry, wrong story ;)

If the driver was an elderly female, she may have only been 3 feet tall, so probably would have only been looking through the bottom part of the screen anyway!

So what you are saying (twice), is that an elderly (thats an ageist statement) woman(sexist) short (vertically challenged) person is to blame.
Those three statements could, (SHOULD) cost you a lot of money!
Suggest you go underground!
