Volunteers take part in Poole Lions Club Swimarathon to help good causes

VOLUNTEERS made a splash for charity this weekend as Poole Lions Club Swimarathon took place.

The long-running event at the Dolphin Swimming Pool saw 96 teams of six swimmers take to the water on Saturday and Sunday to raise money for local charities including Victoria School, Parkstone Sports and Arts Centre, Poole Youth Carers and the Purple Teardrop campaign for trafficked women.

And with just over half the number of teams that usually compete taking part, the fundraiser still managed to coin in around £18,943 which was expected to rise to £21,000 at the final count.

Lion Harold Brown said: “It’s been an exceptional effort this year. We started with less teams than normal but the amount raised has been brilliant.”
