ALL hope is fading for Poole’s Kube Gallery, which is set to close this weekend despite a public outcry.

A Save the Kube Facebook group online has more than 1,000 members, an online petition gathered almost 1,000 names, and a publicity-grabbing protest march was held – but to no avail.

Campaigners are still frantically writing to MPs in a bid for a last-minute reprieve.

The iconic gallery on the North Road campus of Bournemouth and Poole College will open to the public for the last time on Saturday following the withdrawal of funding by the college.

Kube manager Sandy Wilderspin said: “The miracle hasn’t happened yet – but you never know.

“What we want to do is carry on the programme outside the building.

“We are talking to the Lighthouse about putting on some exhibitions there and to Bournemouth Borough Council about the possibility of putting on the summer programme in the town.”

She added: “We will all be looking for alternative jobs, but we are all prepared to give up some of our own time to carry on The Kube.”

She said the final week was busy and staff had worked hard to install the last exhibition featuring work by sixth form students at Poole High School.

“It was planned for later in the year, but we didn’t want them to miss out so we brought it forward,” she added.
