A MAJOR road was closed for nine hours after a lorry accident brought electricity power lines crashing down.
Ringwood Road in Ferndown was closed until midday following the crash involving an articulated lorry between Victoria Road and the Tricketts Cross roundabout at 2.50am on Monday.
The lorry, belonging to Leicester-based company BSS Pipeline and Heating Solutions, left the road and became embedded in a garden, causing damage to a property and electricity poles.
Around 40 residents were left without electricity while emergency repairs were carried out.
A spokesperson for Southern Electric said: “Two of our poles had been snapped and the wires had come down.
“The supply was still secure but we did have to take people off supply later on around 5am so we could carry out repairs. Around 40 people were affected by that.”
She added that work was completed at the site by 2.15pm.
A Dorset Police spokesman said: “Significant damage was caused to power cables and telephone lines and a property in the area. This was a single road traffic collision.
“No one was injured.”
He added that the road was closed for safety reasons and was eventually re-opened after the electricity board gave the go-ahead.
Diversions were put in place via Victoria Road and Ferndown town centre to ensure minimum traffic disruption.
Frank Elkins, managing director of BSS Industrial, said yesterday: “The safety of our staff and the environment in which they are working is always our priority.
“We were concerned to hear about the accident that happened this morning and are of course working with the police, assisting them with their enquiries.”
