Bear Grylls new entry into Who's Who

DORSET action man Bear Grylls has made it into the latest edition of society guide Who’s Who.

The daredevil adventurer and former member of the SAS joins Ant and Dec and Little Britain comedians Matt Lucas and David Walliams in the 162nd edition of the guide.

There are 1,000 new entries this year in Who’s Who, which recognises those who have reached the top of their fields.

Money saving expert Martin Lewis, actress Anna Friel and comedian Ricky Gervais also feature for the first time this year.

Bear Grylls, whose mother still lives in the family home at Winterborne Zelston, near Wimborne, has made a name for himself as a survival expert and adventurer, and is now the Chief Scout.

He was the youngest British climber to conquer Everest when he was just 23-years-old and recently hurled himself off the world’s highest mountain in a flimsy flying machine known as a paramotor.

He broke his back in a skydiving accident when he was in the SAS, completed an Arctic seas crossing in a rigid inflatable boat and rode a jet ski round the coast of Britain for charity.

His wife and mother of his two young sons, Shara, has spoken out on many occasions about her fears for her husband’s life and has voiced anger that he continues to take huge risks.

His listing in Who’s Who describes his interest in mountaineering, paragliding, sailing, yoga and martial arts.

When he was made chief Scout, he said: “I have always loved helping young people live their dreams and to taste real adventure.”
