STAFF at Borders’ landmark Bournemouth store were remaining cheerful at the weekend despite the start of a closing down sale.
Up to 1,100 Borders staff nationally may lose their jobs and administrator MCR is preparing to appoint the restructuring specialist Hilco to liquidate the company.
At the Bournemouth store, shoppers were greeted by closing down sale signs offering 20 per cent off most goods with some exceptions,including calendars and diaries.
HMV Group is thought to be interested in picking up a handful of Borders stores but WHSmith walked away from purchasing 22 stores a week ago.
Staff at Borders in Bournemouth said they were not allowed to speak to the press.
