Major diversions and delays near Poole as artic overturns

DIVERSIONS have been put in place to enable the recovery of an articulated lorry, which overturned close to the Holes Bay Relief Road this morning.

Recovery of the truck is expected to take until around noon, with long delays anticipated in the surrounding roads.

Northbound traffic heading towards the Holes Bay north roundabout, and westbound traffic heading from Dorset Way will be diverted from 10am.

Traffic heading towards the roundabout in an easterly direction will not be affected.

Northbound traffic will be diverted from the Holes Bay Road onto Broadstone Way, then Willis Way and onto the Fleetsbridge roundabout.

Westbound traffic, along Dorset Way, will be diverted onto the Fleetsbridge roundabout, then onto Upton Road to rejoin the bypass at Upton House.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: “Poole Council will also make appropriate adjustment to traffic light sequencing with the increased traffic flow.”

The accident happened at 6.45am on the westbound lane of the A350 Upton bypass close to the Holes Bay north roundabout and involved an articulated lorry registered to a Poole company.

The trailer of the lorry, containing rubber matting, became detached in the incident and is resting on its side in the verge.

"containing rubber matting"
Did the lorry bounce when it went over?

You can just imagine it; the police, fire brigade, HSE and jobsworths arguing over to whom to apportion blame. Even if the recovery vehicle had been following the unfortunate lorry it still would take until lunch time to recover the vehicle!

If you'd actually driven past the scene as I had to this morning, you might wish to re-phrase your ill informed remarks.

Given the position of the lorry at the edge of the Holes Bay roundabout, I'm not surprised that it will take a long time to safely remove the vehicle and the authorities were doing a good job in keeping the traffic moving during the rush hour.

Quick to blame comments. Typical of most people on this site!

Presumably a local driver thinking he could crack on through the roundabout without slowing down at that time in the morning. Whoops!
