Too many cones left us in a jam

What a brilliant idea to cone off a lane of the northbound carriageway of the A338 from the Cooper Dean flyover for work taking place beyond Blackwater junction (Even Worse, Daily Echo, November 24).

This causes problems at both junctions with traffic tailing back into town on the Wessex Way, queues forming on Castle Lane and vehicles spilling back into the single lane of the A338 from the traffic lights on Hurn Road.

If traders in Bournemouth were concerned by the problems caused when the southbound carriageway was being worked on then they should be just as concerned by the present chaos.

When people get to know about the current situation then they, like me, will give Bournemouth a miss.

For instance, who wants to queue from Castlepoint to Blackwater junction to get home from a shopping trip?

Having travelled through this mess yesterday I would have thought the cones could have started just short of Blackwater and been set out so as to divide the traffic into those wishing to go left and those wishing to go on to Ashley Heath.

This would remove the bottleneck at the Cooper Dean and get traffic flowing far better than it was yesterday.
