TRIBUTES were paid to elected Verderer John Adams who is not seeking re-election to the Lyndhurst court this Friday.
New Forest Commoners’ Defence Association chairman Dr Graham Ferris made a presentment at the November court thanking Mr Adams for his 12 years’ service, eight of which included being chairman of the staff committee, which looks after the Agisters.
“John is famously a man of few words, but his contributions to debate are always made without fear or favour and are respected for his clear vision of what he believes is in the best interests of commoners, commoning and the New Forest as a whole,” said Dr Ferris.
Official Verderer Oliver Crosthwaite Eyre also thanked Mr Adams for “his service to the forest and the court”.
Mr Adams, 56, of Ringwood, said he was not standing for re-election because of “lack of time”.
“Basically, I’ve too many other commitments,” he said.
Two other elected Verderers, Anthony Gerrelli and Anthony Pasmore, have also reached the end of their six-year terms of office. Both are standing for re-election.
The other two candidates are commoners Michael Cooper and Richard Deakin. High Sheriff of Hampshire, Dr Clare Bartlett, is returning officer for the election. She paid a visit to the November court.
