IN the grip of a cold November, it might be pretty hard to summon the memory of those few blazing hot days when the More Bus Air Festival wowed Bournemouth.
But Hallmark Productions’ DVD of the festival vividly brings back the experience of the event.
An estimated 1.3 million people craned their necks to enjoy the aerial entertainment over four days back in August. But no one got a view like this.
The DVD brings you 100 minutes of the best action – and not just from the shoreline.
The viewer gets to see the view from inside the Yakovlev stunt planes as they perform a roll over Bourne-mouth seafront which will have most viewers’ stomachs turning over as fast as the aircraft.
When aerobatic team The Blades take to the skies, there’s a camera in the cockpit with one of the pilots, and another filming from the tip of a wing.
And we’re there with the RAF Falcons display parachute team as they leap out of a Chinook and reach 120mph before pulling their chutes and descending in formation.
Everything you remember from the air festival is there, including the majestic Battle of Britain flypast; the last airworthy B17 Flying Fortress in the UK; the terrifyingly loud Typhoon Euro-fighter... all this and the Red Arrows too.
Everything has a commentary, so you can finally discuss those gravity-defying manoeuvres as though you know what you’re talking about.
There’s a chapter selection so you can pick out your favourite aircraft. And the extras include interviews with the pilots and details of good causes that benefited from the festival – Help For Heroes and the John Thornton Foundation.
It’s a great deal more than that you could ever see on that tape that’s still sitting in your camcorder.
* The More Bus Bournemouth Air Festival DVD (Hallmark, £14.99) will be available from Daily Echo offices in Bournemouth, Poole and Swanage next week and is on sale at Bournemouth’s Tourist Information Centre and from Hallmark Productions.
