THE mother of missing toddler A’ishah Sabra says she is playing an agonising waiting game while the Egyptian state police search for her daughter.
Leila Sabra says no progress has been made in finding A’ishah since the country’s top prosecutor ordered the state police to find her and reunite her with her mother almost a week ago.
Two-year-old A’ishah went missing in Egypt on May 16 while on holiday with Leila and the toddler’s Bournemouth grandmother Barbara Maas in the resort of Hurghada.
Leila claims A’ishah was bundled into the back of a car by her father Saber Mesbah Sabra but he has told the Daily Echo he had nothing to do with her disappearance.
Leila has fought tirelessly to find A’ishah and has received the support of her Bury MP Ivan Lewis and the cast of Coronation Street. People in Bournemouth have also lent their support, writing more than 100 letters calling on the government to intervene and help find A’ishah.
Leila returned to Egypt at the beginning of October and has had several meetings with embassy staff.
Speaking to the Echo, she said: “The state police have said they don’t know where A’ishah is and they are looking for her.
“I am just waiting.
“The embassy has been calling the state police every day; they have been amazing.
“The ambassador has also got involved and is writing a letter to the director of the state police.
“My lawyers from GII International are working relentlessly and are doing everything they can.”
A Facebook group has been set up to find A’ishah – Bring two-year-old A’ishah Sabra Home.
