Poole MP hits back at ‘passing the buck’ claims

More stories about: Annette Brooke

A POOLE MP has hit back at claims she is doing nothing to help a mother being terrorised on a Poole estate.

The Sunday Times recently ran a long article about the plight of Asher Nardone, who lives in Grange Gardens, Rossmore, with her two sons, one of whom is profoundly disabled.

In the article, it was suggested Asher had written to her MP, Liberal Democrat Annette Brooke, for help but she had just become involved in “bureaucratic buck-passing”.

Mrs Brooke said she had since received complaints from constituents telling her she should have done more to help.

But she has written to the Times to try and set the record straight. Mrs Brooke said: “I would like to make it clear that I feel Asher does have a hard life and support has not always been there when needed.

“I did not become involved fully with Asher until January this year.

“I met with her at a surgery on January 17 and have been following her case since then.”

Mrs Brooke said she had hammered out a six-point action plan with a police superintendent, including arranging a female officer for Asher to report directly to.

She also detailed a list of communications she had sent to the likes of Poole Housing Partnership, Dorset Police and Poole council about the family’s ordeal.

The Times article focused mainly on the relentless attacks Asher and her two sons have endured since they moved on to the Rossmore estate in May 2006.

In the piece, Asher said the authorities “just kept passing the buck”.

The Times feature was prompted by the tragic case of Fiona Pilkington, from Leicestershire, who killed herself and her disabled 18-year-old daughter by setting light to her car after suffering similar levels of abuse.

We moved from this area in july as were harrased and threatened for 3 years by a woman and her scum family that loved a few doors away she threatened to kill me and my kids, spat at me and screamed at me in the street, vandalised my car and dumped rubbish at the back of my house the police and the council did nothing just gave me diary sheets to fill in - in the end it wasn't worth the stress so we moved to lower parkstone and couldn't be happier!

A 6 point action, which it seems the best is a phone number !! what a meeting that must of been !! lets let the MP,s do a house swap, without a second home claim to follow? then it might be a slightly different course of action.

mta poole - what a pathetic post, Can't you read what Annette Brooke has done?
Why not direct your tirade at the local council who should be in the firing line -after all, they are responsible for housing

This sort of behaviour is all too common these days and with victims being made to feel they are a nuisance/paranoid/ov
er-reacting etc by the council, police and other agencies, this kind of thing will go on and on.

I know a family in Poole who have been terrorised by a neighbours family for almost 6 years now.

The other family regularly physically attack them, deface their house, car and garden. They threaten the children to the point that they are petrified to leave the house - including going to school - yet even the schools do nothing.

I have even had to drive them to stay with friends and family several times when things have got too bad.

All they get is forms to fill out and an ocassional visit from a PCSO to "check things are ok" - which they never are, but s*d all gets done by ANYONE!

For all the claims of the anti social officers at Poole Council, they do not do NEARLY enough for tenants living in fear.

What hope is there if everyone is so busy filling in forms that they don't have time to actually get out there and DO something to stop these horrible people making decent folks lives a misery?

“I met with her at a surgery on January 17 and have been following her case since then.”

It makes so much more sense if people are having trouble in their homes, that they are met in their homes and not at some rented room that people have to endure getting to.

Much more needs to be done to combat this kind of behaviour that causes so much stress and grief in peoples' lives.

mta -Yes, I have voted in every council and general election since 1960s. What has that got to do with your initial post?
The MP MAY be a link, but she's not policy maker for housing in Poole- that honour falls to our 'elected' members...or did you not know that?

Assuming this lady has not provoked each attack then, why are the police not involved in these cases and giving a stern warning/caution/pris
on sentence to the offenders?
If it was a sexuality hate crime - I am sure the offender would have been locked up by now - it does not make sense.

Look its quite simple really and even though I'm not a resident of Poole anymore, the system is the same where I live now.If you have the sort of problem that the unfortunate family above have, then you make your complaint to the relevant dept. at the council. If they ignore their legal duty of care then the next stop is your designated councillor. If the councillor ignores his duty of care then your local m.p. is next.If the local police representative ignore their duty of care of care, the next stop is the Area Police commander. In the U.K. that would be vice chief or chief constable,it would probably help if your in the 'Masons' though.
The reason we have these tiers of government and responsibility is that its supposed to make the country or state more democratic, thats if all of the above actually do their job.
The fact that this family and families like them have had to go to the national newspapers to get someone to do something for them is lamentable in the extreme.
As an expat.,I dont get to read the Echo as much as I would like but when ever I do at least 60%+ of comments are about local councils.
It seems strange that certain councils in the U.K. have ended up being the master and not the servant of the people they purport to represent. These council dept's have to spend more time doing what their job title describes and stop feathering their own nests one way or another. This seems a problem of management the world over, management has to do their job and in these sort of cases seen to do their job and stop being so down right arrogant in ignoring the concerns of the citizens they are paid to serve.
What is the alternative??Do you take the law into your own hands? If the leaders of communities and their legal officers refuse to carry out their duty what else can you do.
If Poole council ignore's the terrible image that the majority of constituents seem to have of them then vote them out,get out there election time and vote.I've said it many many times but what other alternative do you have?

Another story of the terrible circumstances some people have ot endure on Rossmore.
Why aren't the authorities taking firm action against these anti-social people ??
They don't care about law and order

It is very sad that you blame an MP for the shortcomings of a local authority's Who should take a more robust attitude towards bullying of this kind. The parents of these hooligans should be reminded they are the one's responsible and if they lose their homes tough I for one will shed no tears. the police no doubt are busy policing the drunks down the High Street
