PUPILS at St John’s First School in Wimborne helped themselves to a well-earned slice of cake to celebrate the school’s “outstanding” report from Ofsted.

Youngsters had received personal invitations to an afternoon of celebrations at the school, including a performance of Robin Hood from a professional theatre company.

Pupils had put on their smartest clothes for the special occasion, to celebrate the school’s achievement of top marks in each of six assessment categories.

Mum of two, Heather Prest, whose children Lucy, aged eight, and six-year-old Tom attend the school, said the celebration was well deserved.

Teachers had instilled a love of learning in their young charges, she said, while support staff showed a caring attitude towards the children.

Inspectors said the school had an “inclusive and caring ethos” which prepared pupils well for the next stage of their education.
