YOUNG gardeners have been getting their hands dirty in the school’s new allotment.
The horticulturists have been sowing seeds in a bid to win a government “food for life” award for the Blandford St Mary Primary School.
Seasonal vegetables have been planted in the raised beds and apple and pear trees in the school grounds mark humble beginnings for what school leaders hope will become a mighty orchard.
Meanwhile “eco bugs” have been spreading a passion for green living in the classroom with young monitors checking lights and computers are switched off.
The energy-conscious pupils have been sharing their findings with the school council, which reports to head teacher Paul Lavis.
Mr Lavis said the school’s ultimate aim was to win a government “Eco-Schools” award.
