A TEACHER has quit her job at a Poole boys’ school after being suspended and cautioned by the police.

The member of staff at Poole Grammar School offered her resignation to the school following her suspension and this was accepted earlier this month.

A police investigation took place into the matter before a caution was issued.

Both police and the Borough of Poole – the local education authority – are remaining tight-lipped over the precise nature of the offence.

But the Daily Echo understands the matter involves a relationship between the woman and one of the boys.

A Borough of Poole spokesman said: “We can confirm that a member of staff at Poole Grammar School was suspended earlier this month.

“The member of staff subsequently offered to resign with immediate effect.

“The governing body of the school accepted this resignation.”

The council spokesperson confirmed all the necessary checks were made on the member of staff before her appointment at the school.

These included previous employment references and a criminal record check.

Allegations made against members of staff are taken seriously and investigated in accordance with the human resource policies adopted by the school’s governing body, added the spokesman.

Dorset Police confirmed an investigation had taken place, but said the caution was the end of its involvement in the matter. A police spokesperson said: “Following an allegation made against a member of staff at Poole Grammar School, the employee was cautioned by police.

“No further detail is being released.”

The grammar school, on Gravel Hill, is for boys aged 12 to 18 and has around 1,200 students.
