THE pupils weren’t the only ones gearing up for their first day at a North Dorset primary school.

For among the fresh faces at Milborne St Andrew First School was new head teacher, Anne Purdy. “I am delighted to be joining such a successful school which has gone from strength to strength over the last few years,” she said.

“There is a real sense of warmth and community within the school with very hard working, friendly, happy children and staff.”

The new head was a deputy at a school in Norfolk, where she had taken special responsibility for its youngest pupils.

Mrs Purdy has taken over the running of the school from Tom Leech, who left at the end of the summer term after 13 years at the school.

Mr Leech steered the school to an “outstanding” OFSTED report.
