Team looks to the skies over Air Festival

ALL eyes will be trained on the skies over Bournemouth over the next few days.

Camera lenses will also be focused skywards, but if you miss that perfect shot, then fear not as exclusive high definition footage of all the highlights will be available on the Daily Echo website daily.

As well as our own still photos, Parkstone-based TV production company Hallmark Productions will be providing us with video footage of the flying displays from vantage points along the seafront.

There will be two cameras based on the roof of the Cumberland Hotel, one on the cliff face near the commentary position and one moving camera along the beach.

The team covered the Air Festival last year, producing a DVD of the show, and promised this year’s footage will be even better.

“There will be a special feature on the Vulcan and on the Yakovlevs,” explained head of production Chris Hall.

Hallmark has been established for 20 years and works both nationally and internationally. The company recently supplied 24-hour coverage of the G20 summit to various television networks, films premiership football matches and has also produced footage of the work on the Boscombe surf reef, including under-water shots.

The air festival may be a fairly small job in comparison, but it is also one of the trickiest.

“This is hard,” said Chris. “There’s so many variables like the weather, the numbers of people, where the planes fly.

“We’ve actually been preparing for this for around three months. We’ve been researching camera positions and locations, filming interviews with people for the DVD.

“There’s a lot that goes into it behind the scenes.”

And when the planes have gone they will have to review all their footage for the DVD.

“It will be hard work”, he added. “We will be really tired at the end of it, but it will be great fun.”
