CLOUDS thwarted most attempts to see the Perseids meteor shower this week - but the New Forest Observatory managed to get this picture.

Taken on Monday, when there was less cloud cover, it shows three of the meteors streaking across the sky above the Forest.

Bournemouth Echo: PICTURE: Greg PArker/Noel Carboni

The picture was taken by Professor Greg Parker using a long exposure and then sent to an expert in Florida for processing.

Professor Parker said: "Noel Carboni worked his Photoshop magic to bring a great image out of very suspect data! "This was only 45 seconds of exposure. You can see three Perseids in this image. None of these meteors was visible to the naked eye over the bright moon."
